Being A Truck Driver Is Not All Serious Work

//Being A Truck Driver Is Not All Serious Work

Truck driving is a serious job, especially if you’re behind the wheel of a big rig. There are several tons on board and that makes your vehicle a dangerous missile as you fly down the highway. However, like many jobs, there are the fun times too. At this time of year, there are many truck drivers who are preparing to drive floats, or take Santa on the many trips he seems to make each year. However, Christmas is not the only time of year that truck drivers get to let their hair down a little.

To begin with, there are several truck conventions held around the nation each year. These conventions bring drivers together to demonstrate the latest in technology, proposed changes to truck laws and regulations, and for truck drivers to just swap stories, compare employers and to catch up on general gossip. For those a little more adventurous, some truck conventions include events where drivers can demonstrate skills, and perhaps even race each other.

Truck drivers are often brought in to do some of the strangest jobs. I read recently where a trucker, following her wedding (yes her), ordered a big rig to take her away rather than the traditional limo. At the other end of the scale, I have also seen truck drivers involve a funeral procession where the casket was delivered on the back of a flatbed rather than a hearse.

The truck is often the central feature of these events, however, they still require licensed drivers to operate them, and while an event may be fun, the driver is still required to follow road rules and general trucking regulations. To be an effective truck driver, you need to start on the right foot undertaking training through accredited and well recognized truck driver training school. Yes, truck driving is a serious business – however, there are times when you can let you hair down just a little to have fun, just be sure to stay with the general rules.
